Beaver Lake
Beaver Lake was founded by veterans of World War II and the Korean War—men & women who understood the value of service, community, and healing. In 1953, Post 32’s connection with Beaver Lake began, originally as a simple retreat for camping and fishing. But over time, it became much more than that.
For many Vietnam veterans returning from the hardships of war, Beaver Lake became a sanctuary. It offered a place of solace, refuge, and peace—a space to reconnect with family, nature, and themselves. Whether seeking quiet reflection or the camaraderie of fellow veterans, Beaver Lake welcomed them all.
In more recent years, Beaver Lake has also become a meaningful retreat for veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. These modern-day warriors, like those before them, have found comfort, connection, and healing in the quiet natural surroundings. The lake offers a place to reflect, reconnect with loved ones, and share fellowship with others who understand the journey of military service.
Beaver Lake is still a great place to spend quality time with family and friends. Seasonally, members of our Post continue to enjoy the beauty of Beaver Lake. Presently, there are 120 primitive camping spots with no facilities other than the Shelter. Members may also enjoy day use of the lake. The original Shelter, a hog barn from the Boulder County Fairgrounds, was donated to the Legion by Longmont's Roosevelt Park.
Volunteer caretakers are on-site at Beaver Lake throughout the week, with additional support from Post volunteers on the weekends. Please be aware that cellphones do not work at Beaver Lake; however, a landline telephone is available at the Shelter.
It stands today as a symbol of healing and unity, built on the strength and sacrifice of those who served.
